During an infectious process, it is necessary to wash a few times a day, 2, 3 , 4 or even more, according to the specific need on a case to case basis. We advise to wash the nose as soon as the child wakes up, to remove the excess produced and accumulated during the night, before meals and before going to bed, to have a better quality sleep. In the absence of an infectious condition, the frequency is related to the patient’s condition. If it is allergic, rhinitis or sinusitis of repetition, if living in a very dry or polluted place, in these cases washing the nose once a day can be indicated.

To carry out an effective and safe nasal wash, it is essential to create a favorable environment for the baby/child to feel as comfortable as possible:

Tip 1 – Choose an environment that the baby/child is familiar with and place that can get wet, like the bathtub or shower stall. Take a toy or item to play so that he can relax and be more at ease.

Tip 2 – Allow the baby/child to hold and manipulate the NoseWash device freely. The idea behind this is so that he can see it in his hand, simulate the way it works, and slowly realize that this moment can be fun.

Tip 3 – At the moment of the procedure, try to make it a ludic moment by using storytelling, sing songs, use the NoseWash characters as a tool. For a fun and safe nasal wash with children, it depends a lot on who is applying it. Leave the baby/child´s arms free as much as possible, use the device on yourself in some moment to show them that adults do it too, this may help reduce anxiety. It is very common to use these tactics when teaching a child to eat, why not try these same strategies when it´s time to wash the nose?
